Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

Primarily Im a fine artist, exploring concepts and ideas that have come out of my own experiences, hopefully creating work that is personal yet can be understood and appreciated by everyone. I work mainly with oils, but I also use watercolours, acrylic, photography and printmaking techniques.

What's your creative background, your day job and how did you start making things?

From school I completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts in Graphic Design and New Media at Wollongong Uni and went on to work at various design studios around Sydney. But the more I slaved away in front of a screen I realised it wasn’t right for me as I was putting more effort into my personal artworks at home after hours, So I gave it all up (well most of it) and have gone back to school where I’m now almost halfway through a degree in Fine Arts at the National Art School in Darlinghurst.

What are the things you find most inspiring?

Almost anything can be an inspiration, but there's always the old masters to fall back on. My work involves exploring the technical aspects of artmaking and personal themes that come out of my immediate experiences.

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

At the moment I have a school studio, for my work directly relating to the course, and a personal studio where I work on pieces that take what I have learned in school and apply it to my own ideas and concepts. So I spend most of the time going between them.

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

I think it’s an amazing event and even more amazing opportunity, especially with the way it is expanding and evolving, and very useful for emerging artists and designers of all types.

Where would you like your art/brand to be in the future?

I am not aiming too high, but being able to pay rent and buy a little food would be nice so hopefully I can raise my profile enough to generate some interest.

Where can we buy your stuff?

I don’t have any specific place where my work is stocked, so it’s mainly available when I show at galleries and other events.
