Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

Sometimes I make paintings.   Often I make food.  My job is making clothes that my friends would wear, and I love seeing my clothes make people smile.

What's your creative background, your day job and how did you start making things?

I studied fashion at Whitehouse Institute of Design, and was lucky enough to win a Scholarship to a design course in Italy, which meant living in Florence for a year. Life is tough!  For the last three years or so, I have been working at creating my own label.  Working independently is hard work, it’s putting your work up for criticism, its changed a lot from my initial expectations, and it’s so rewarding when things come together and when people enjoy the things I make.  My other job is in supporting and encouraging small business, so I get to meet lots of energetic people, passionate about what they do.

What are the things you find most inspiring?

Nature, the sea, horses, Paris, shape, colour and texture, music, art, coffee, chocolate, current obsession with flowers, fellow creative folk and Mr Creation himself, God.

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

Its one half of my bedroom which we refer to as the new york loft.  Its packed with hanging space and little boxes containing; patterns, finished clothes and unfinished, ideas, photos and things that inspire are always within view.

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

I can't wait for the next market!  Not least because I'm looking forward to seeing the other stallholders, I love the independent creative community this kind of market fosters.

Where would you like your art/brand to be in the future?

On people's bodies.  Making people feel great wearing it.
