Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

IMOK by Jen Roberts and Sandra Mason

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

IMOK invites you into their world, a world that says I’m ok…if you are?
This philosophy can be felt flowing out of a range of quirky, cute, layered and at times melancholy collection of illustrations. These illustrations have been adapted into various art forms including their highly desirable range of girls and guys t-shirts, hats, scarves, one off canvases and prints.

Our work has been featured in various exhibitions, including Melbourne’s Stencil Festival 07, and can be found as part of The Featured Artist Collection with US label Volcom.

What's your creative background, your day job and how did you start making things?

Both studied art in High School and have always enjoyed all things creative. Sandra studied/dabbled in interior decorating following that up with photography – which is where and how we discovered stencilling. Through Stencil art we discovered a new way to be creative and an easy way of getting our designs onto t-shirts. Jen worked in Hospitality as a Café Manager which has helped with starting and running a business. Since the beginning our work has continued to grow and evolve from the stencils into more intricate character based work.

What are the things you find most inspiring?

All types of art especially street art and sculpture, we love the idea of walking down a dark alley and finding a bright and inspiring piece of street art. We also admire and love many artists that are all over the world… discovering them mainly through magazines, myspace and the internet.

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

We both work from home at the moment and look forward to having our own Studio. We decided early on to create a space that emulates what we would have in our dream studio. By converting an area in our homes to contain all the chaos, we have our very own makeshift IMOK studio! With contained areas for fabrics and stock, the walls are covered in inspiring images, new ideas and current workings. Shelves that are filled with magazines, books and art materials, each space is unique to either of us but the elements remain the same.

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

After running stalls at markets that exist within Sydney and dealing with weather and other factors - Hope Street really has filled the gap. By having an indoor market exclusively for designers, it was a perfect pairing. This type of market compliments our work and style, allowing customers the opportunity to really be able to look at our designs and also have the chance to chat with us about it. Our favourite market by far!

Where would you like your art/brand to be in the future??

We would like IMOK to exist and stocked worldwide. The idea for IMOK is to have the characters, designs and message reach as many people as possible. By bringing not only a new trend in street clothing, but a powerful message that is delivered by distinctive IMOK characters. We believe that our brand has enormous potential to not only appeal to people on a design level, but also to have an influence with a powerful, yet positive message.
