Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

Little Jane Street by Alarna Zinn

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

LITTLE JANE ST, the brainchild of owner and head Greeting Designer Alarna Zinn is a new Australian business that offers a diverse range of unique and chic greeting cards and hand screen printed wrap for your nearest and dearest.

As many creative ventures do, LITTLE JANE ST sprang from a novel idea: to revive Brisbane's design culture and defy our nation's mushrooming e-card inclination with an inspired line of stationery items. The LITTLE JANE ST boutique stationery label includes design-minded limited edition greeting cards, gift tags, custom invitations, signature wrap and personalised trinkets, delivered in organic hand-stitched cotton carry-bags tied up with string, which allows each customer to take a little piece of the gift giving thrill for themselves.

What's your creative background, your day job and how did you start making things?

I am a trained and practiced Graphic Designer and have recently become a business owner. Discontent with Brisbane's corporate design work offerings, I decided to try something new and invest my graphic design training in a wholly original, unique and artistically boundless business venture. When I am not busy hand-picking vintage material, buttons, sequins and all manner of recycled odds and ends from my local markets, I enjoy spending my time learning and experimenting with traditional craft methods such as hand stitching, knitting, drawing, painting, stamping, stenciling, cutting and pasting, origami and textured collage.

What are the things you find most inspiring?

I search for the beautiful, strange and unique in everything, whether it is from something discovered while ferreting around in second hand shops or adapting those traditional craft practices learnt from our grandmothers. Inspiration can be sourced from anything and individuality is everything.

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

The LITTLE JANE ST design hub is located in my suburban-based workshop/apartment. My workspace can often be found in a state of undeniable disarray and is littered by shards of paper, large piles of hoarded textiles, possibly an errant needle and thread and vintage craft and pattern books sourced from an unspoiled second-hand shop. My workspace has presently invaded most of the remaining corners within my home, as I have been feverishly unwrapping and re-packaging LITTLE JANE ST's maiden batch of stock.

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

Not only will I be guaranteed a marvellous day out at the markets, I also recognise the unique opportunity that the Hope Street Markets presents to launch my business, showcase my products, peek at those exhibited by my peers and network with an eclectic range of Australian artists, designers and craftspeople. I look forward to contributing to and being enveloped by the exciting design culture of the Hope Street Markets.

Where would you like your art/brand to be in the future??

I hope to establish an online customer base and secure retail space for the LITTLE JANE ST boutique stationery label within design and gift stores, galleries and florists throughout Australia.

Where can we buy your stuff?

While the LITTLE JANE ST empire is still at its infant stage and therefore does not have a list of stockists, my ever - plumpifying collection of cards, gift tags, custom invitations and signature wrap may be acquired via my multipurpose online store.
