Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

Miss Béba by Giotta Tringas

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

I make beautifully crafted tres cool Liberty Fabric babywear. Each piece is proudly handmade in Australia, currently by myself. I have a strong ethos re: locally made product. I started off just making a versatile smock dress and matching bloomer style at the end of last year.. I believe in a liberal approach to fit where a baby can grow with and into a piece of clothing.  As my print selections and ideas grow, I now offer a few more styles that I've introduced in the current W08 collection, these are more refined, along with still offering my signature smock dress in both cotton lawn and divine kingly cord qualities. The emphasis is on the stunning Liberty Fabric print designs which are so detailed and distinctive so I like to offer clean lines and simple shapes.

What's your creative background, your day job and how did you start making things?

I am an ex-womenswear designer, I quit my day job of designing back in the middle of 2006, went travelling o/s and when I came back home to Sydney, I found myself being uninspired about getting back into the rag trade and then spending time with a couple girlfriends with babies and toddlers I realised that I could offer something with a point of difference and always having admired liberty fabrics and the gorgeous Liberty store in Regent Street in London, it all just went from there really..

What are the things you find most inspiring?

Fashion, colour, travelling, passion - doing whatever makes you happy, seeing other people's dreams become reality & knowing anything is possible if you put your mind to it!

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

Would love to say it's a white washed studio with inspiration oozing out of every corner, but alas it's just the dining room table at home at the moment! This is where I design, patternmake, cut, sew and hustle retailers to stock miss béba!

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

I had just recently heard of them to be honest and I think they would be a great place to market, especially being a 2 day event and perfect for brand exposure and possibly meet other like minded creative small business owners and make contacts.

Where would you like your art/brand to be in the future??

Having just established the label at the end of 2007, it's still early days yet but I'd like to continue doing specialty markets like Hope Street and Young Blood for kids, get the website happening and secure approx 10 wholesale accounts by the end of 2008.
