Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

I make brooches and gift cards out of vintage images.  All my work is handmade and each piece is one of a kind.

What's your creative background, your day job and how did you start making things?

On weekdays I am a full time Fine Arts student and on the weekend I work with homeless people as a social worker.  I started making brooches a couple of years ago after coming across some beautiful old stamps at the markets.

What are the things you find most inspiring?

Much of the inspiration for my work comes from retro and vintage fashion, bric-a-brac, textiles and art.  I love homewares magazines and old books.  I have done a lot of overseas travel in the last couple of years, and the art and design I come across in these trips is another source of inspiration.

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

At the moment my workplace is on the dining room table, coffee table, and general lounge room floor which is a less than ideal situation!

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

A friend told me about the Hope Street Markets and recommended it as a venue for selling my products.  After many years on the market scene I have found Hope Street Markets to be the best for emerging designers.  A bonus is that the Hope Street Markets is also assisting the homeless community.

Where would you like your art/brand to be in the future??

I would like to expand my product range while retaining the emphasis on vintage materials.  My dream is to secure more stockists in Sydney, Australia and eventually internationally.  I am planning to check out the market scene in London next year.
