Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

I make jewellery. It is currently all handmade, using a variety of materials, some recycled.

What's your creative background, your day job and how did you start making things?

I have studied Jewellery & Object Design at the Enmore Design Centre, also Fashion Design at East Sydney TAFE and Shoe Making at Ultimo TAFE.
I am currently studying Jewellery Manufacture part time, also at Enmore and I work in retail a couple of days a week to pay the rent.
I worked in the TVC Production industry for many years in a few different areas, but became increasingly unfulfilled, so decided to retrain as a jeweller.
I love this medium! It combines my love of fashion with craftiness, metal fabrication, design, architecture, history, sparkly things - you name it, it can be expressed and utilised through wearable art.

What are the things you find most inspiring?

I am inspired by fabulous and fearless people who aren't afraid to wear big, bold pieces of jewellery.
There aren't many true individuals left in this world of mass production and mass consumption, so meeting people who think for themselves inspires me.

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

I have a workshop at home which is small but adequate. I'd like a few more electric tools to complete it though...
Working from home is ideal for me right now due to lack of funds, but it's also great in that I am home with my new puppy Juanita and never too far from the fridge.

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

I like the emphasis on design and handmade items and it's great that Hope Street aren't profit orientated and support homeless organizations.

Where would you like your art/brand to be in the future??

Supporting me financially.

Where can we buy your stuff?
