Welcome to the Hope
Street Markets Website!

Welcome to the Hope Street Markets Website! We are a design and art markets event held seasonally, that celebrate and bring independent designers to the forefront - we are not your average markets!

4th June 2008 - Web update

We have successfully rounded up our 4th Hope Street Markets. The Autumn Markets weekend in May was a complete success and we raised $2,741 for HopeStreet's Winter Appeal - which goes to support Sydney's Homeless.

For those that missed out, see our gallery for images of the markets.

For now we wish you all a great Winter, unfortunately we will not be running a Winter market this year but you can expect to hear more news from us in a couple of months with any new dates.

In the mean time keep connected with us via our mailing list.

What do you make? Tell us about your product!

I make handmade journals. They are made up of an assortment of bits and pieces collected from around the world and bound together. The journals feature vintage postcards, magazine pages, wallpaper, paper bags and pages torn from vintage books.

What are the things you find most inspiring?

I have always had a penchant for all things stationary. I travel and continually purchase little remnants of paper that appeal to me. I love writing and sketching on paper that once had a previous life as a recipe book or a novel from the 40’s. Eventually I decided to bind all these fragments together and create the journals.
I love items from past eras. There is something inherently glamorous and stylish about the past – matt dust jackets and magazine pictures of women mopping floors in evening dresses. It is sharply juxtaposed with our slick and fast society of today. I enjoy combining elements of these different worlds in the journals.

Where is your workspace and what is it like?

I work from a room at the back of my house and it ranges from being extremely ordered to perfectly chaotic. The room is full of photos, vintage books, rolls of wallpaper and inspiring bits and pieces. My cattle dog cross, Caddy, is always underfoot.  My favourite things in the room are my vintage typewriter and my bright green wall.

Why did you choose Hope Street Markets?

I visited Hope Street Markets and loved them. I bought a set of Russian dolls that were painted with skeletons. I love the opportunity to be involved in an organisation that celebrates original products.
Where would you like your brand to be in the future?
I would love to continue to stock stores that value individuality and reflect the eclectic nature of the journals.

Where can we buy your stuff?

You can buy the journals in Sydney at Mushu, Pentimento, Ariel Bookstore and The Museum of Sydney. In Melbourne they can be found at I Dream a Highway and Greville St Books.
